I have just posted on the blog re a news story that came out tonight:

The estranged husband of a woman left mutilated and dying in a London street has been arrested, police have said.

A murder inquiry began earlier after Geeta Aulakh, 28, died from her injuries, which included a severed hand and a head wound.

She was found in Braund Avenue, Greenford, west London, at 1900 GMT on Monday and died a few hours later.

Her husband, from whom she was separated, is one of six men who have been arrested.

Investigators believe Ms Aulakh was attacked on Monday evening, shortly after leaving work at the community radio station Sunrise Radio to pick up her two children.

I am completely shocked and horrified at this crime. This poor young woman was left in the middle of a London street to die. She was on the way to pick up her children of 8 and 9.

Marriage... where supposedly things can sometimes go wrong..how bad can things get? This is clearly domestic violence at its extreme, Honour based violence rearing its head?

Saffron some of the papers are reporting that her right hand was cut off, the hand that Sikhs wear the kara bangle.

One paper specifies that her head had been 'scalped', i.e. her hair had been cut off.

It really is too horrible. She was still alive when she was found.

What sort of person does a thing like that??  Huh  Cry

you were right about Jasvinder S being asked to comment...I think the daily mirror yesterday and there have been others.

Taking her hand where the Kara is worn and taking her hair from her scalp are both signs/indicators of taking her right to her Faith as a sikh and dignity...No one has the right to judge in the community or family the individuals right to how they choose to live their life. This message should be strong and clear to the animals that did this to her.

Lets hope that the sikhs who respect their Faith with these symbols will have something to say about domestic violence in their communities and the right of women to be respected married or separated... and  to feel safe, and theyve been other cases.. Like the Aliwalia case....all in the name of so called Honour .

This is a complicated crime, made even harder by the brutality of it. Check out the stories from todays papers which explain more:

If you look very hard through the press, you might just spot the story that Geeta Aulakh's husband has now also been charged with her murder.

Blog post up on it today- click here to read.

Not sure why this wasn't a bigger story...

I came across this thread today and so shocking a story I did a little research. Most of the information was based around November December 2009. I did come across this snippet.

"The victim's husband, Harpreet Aulakh, 31, and Sher Singh, 18, have also been charged with her murder and will go on trial at the Old Bailey in October."

I remember seeing all this in the news last year.  Again I am shocked.  How honour and murder can in some peoples mine be connected and be justified is beyond me.  There are some v sick people out there and its a shame that women like Geeta are snuffed out because of them.

Her and her children are the truly honourable ones.  RIP.

There are plenty of such cases which have went unreported and the murderers getting away with such brutal crimes.
If 'Honour' was not a big deal for asian communities like they make it out to be such there would be not so many innocent deaths.
